It’s January 8th and I want to wish you a Happy New Year!
While the world was enjoying New Year’s Eve, nursing hangovers, and hibernating through the extreme cold in Ontario last week, we were recovering from the worst virus/flu/bronchitis that’s touched our family yet. Having been out of commission for two weeks, I’m hitting the refresh button on 2018 starting now. And that’s essentially my motto for 2018. START NOW - a new beginning can, and will, start now!
Maybe you need some encouragement to start now, too? For me, when the holidays are extended beyond January 3rd (and school starts later like this year) that first week of the New Year, when my ambitions are typically the highest, gets lost. I blame it on the loose routine when the kids and family are home; I’d rather enjoy family time and avoid thinking about the things I have to/want to do like purging the house, exercising, cooking healthy meals etc.
Or, maybe you operate the opposite way... Do you kick-off the new year with the best intentions right on January 1st because you have that extra time and support around? But, when your “real” routine starts Monday, January 8th, all those new year resolutions you followed the first week fall quickly by the wayside?
Perhaps, you’ve made no resolutions and keep on doing your thing as usual. Or, you are super awesome, keep it together all the time, and require no resolutions to propel yourself into the new year? (I envy you!)
No matter which camp you fall into, if you want to make a change, start now. That’s what I’m reminding myself this year. If it’s a big goal, break it down into three simple steps. Here’s an example.
Let’s say your goal is to move this year. Whether you are a first-time buyer, a couple looking to move into a bigger home, a family with changing needs, or looking to downsize, you can start now on your move preparations by doing the following:
- Get pre-approved for a mortgage. Don’t delay! On January 1st new mortgage rules and qualifying stress tests came into effect and could impact your buying power in 2018. Speak with a mortgage broker or specialist. I can refer you to a few professionals.
- Start purging and decluttering. When the time comes to move ensure you are packing and moving only what you want in the next chapter of your life. Also, if you are selling, it’s best to remove excess furniture and declutter in preparation for staging your home to sell.
- Find a Realtor to help you. A Realtor will guide you through all the steps you will need to take to prepare for your move. Aside from helping you find the right home or sell your current home, once you make the decision to start now, the right realtor will keep you on track.
This is just an example of how to start now on a big goal by breaking it down into three steps. I’ll elaborate more on these moving preparation tips in future blogs but if you, or someone you know, need help getting started on a move, message, or call me and we can start now, together.
Remember it’s not too late to start now on whatever you’ve been wanting to do for 2018! I’m going to start now on my 2018 to-do list!
What’s on your start now list for 2018?
